Making Marunouchi a Fashion town 19 years of BEAMS HOUSE Marunouchi's journey with the town

BEAMS HOUSE opened on the first floor of the Marunouchi Bldg. (Marunouchi Bldg.) in 2002 when it opened. Mr. Oguri worked as an opening staff member at the time, and currently serves as a manager and supervisor. We asked them about the journey that BEAMS and Marunouchi have taken together, and the changes that have been seen in the city from the perspective of Fashion.

“Adult BEAMS” was born in Marunouchi

Mr. Oguri joined Beams Co., Ltd. in 1998 at the age of 20, and four years later started working in Marunouchi as the opening staff for BEAMS HOUSE Marunouchi. Here's how I look back on those days.
``Beams is a brand with a strong casual image that started in Harajuku.Many people wore it when they were young, but quit when they grew up.Around 2002, the company decided to create Beams for adults.'' He was interested. Around the same time, he received an invitation to Marunouchi Bldg. and decided to open a store there.''
At that time, there were few Fashion brands in Marunouchi, and it had the image of being a business district. The catchphrase when Marunouchi Bldg. opened was ``Even though it was Sunday, I was getting off at Tokyo Station.'' You can see how rare it was for people to come to Marunouchi ``privately.''
``Certainly, when I came to do some research before the store opened, there weren't many people walking around in the evening.However, within the company, there was no feeling of anxiety that ``customers wouldn't come.'' In fact, it was a positive atmosphere that said, ``It's going to get busy!'' In fact, it was a great topic of conversation, and many customers, including those who work in Marunouchi and those who had never been here before, came. As a result, I feel that Marunouchi has created a point of contact for a variety of people, including people in their 70s and 80s who don't usually wear BEAMS, and people who came to Tokyo for sightseeing, to come into contact with Fashion and, ultimately, fashion.Staff From my point of view, I honestly feel that I was too busy at the time and was doing all I could to run the store (lol).

The opening time passed by at a dizzying pace. The leather book cover that was distributed as a novelty item is a keepsake.
``The BEAMS HOUSE logo is embossed on the inside, and the leather texture is simple, but the more you use it, the more you use it.I feel that the quality is quite high as a novelty item.Even after 19 years, the staff still love it. After working in Marunouchi for three years, I transferred to another store and returned to Marunouchi four years ago, and the customers who have been coming to the store since the days when we were handing out this novelty are still here. I am deeply moved that you continue to visit us."
Since the store has been visited by customers from all walks of life since its opening, the store has been carefully designed.
``We had the widest selection of products of any store, focusing on suits and other dress items, as well as traditional style items and designer items. About three years after we opened, we had a solid customer base, I started to see the shape of ``BEAMS''.I came to the Marunouchi store at the age of 24.I originally joined the company because I was interested in designer Fashion, so at the time I had no knowledge of dresses, but I took my time in Marunouchi. I started to learn more and realized the wonders of suits."

BEAMS, a place that connects people and Marunouchi through Fashion

Mr. Oguri is currently in charge of the store as a manager, and also manages the store's operations as a supervisor. However, he says that ``customer service'' is his starting point.
“I entered this industry because I love clothes, and I think Daigomi of this job is to introduce the things I like and the good things to as many people as possible, so I still enjoy standing in stores and serving customers. In particular, BEAMS HOUSE Marunouchi has a diverse customer base, so we focus not only on professional product knowledge but also on hospitality.Our staff members often become established customers, and many customers have been visiting us for many years. In my case, the customers I worked at other stores are now frequenting the Marunouchi store.''
Also, due to the location of Marunouchi, we have customers like this.
``One of the characteristics of our customers is that we have customers from all over the country.We come here several times a year on business trips.Twenty years ago, people who came on business trips would not have been able to buy clothes in Marunouchi.But now, It has become a natural How to enjoy Marunouchi feel that the fact that we are playing a part in this in Fashion field is proof that we have grown together with the city."

Currently, BEAMS HOUSE Marunouchi has a wide selection of casual Fashion for adults, with a focus on dresses. It also has a fully equipped order salon and is the only store in Japan to offer tuxedo and morning rental Service, making it a place where adults can enjoy Fashion at their leisure.
“People who used to come to Marunouchi for business continue to come back even after they retire, and we even have two generations of parents and children come to our store.I am happy that BEAMS functions as a place that connects people with Marunouchi. "I'm here."

To Marunouchi, a city where culture takes root

BEAMS HOUSE Nineteen years have passed since Marunouchi opened, and from Oguri's perspective, the city has changed dramatically.
I feel that Marunouchi has become a town where culture has taken root. Fashion has been expanding since 2002, and with the opening of Shin-Marunouchi Bldg. in 2007, the number of restaurants and eateries has increased even more, making Marunouchi a truly 'town' that is constantly expanding. In addition, the surrounding area, including Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Tokyo and the Imperial Palace, is a place where families can enjoy being in touch with art and nature. In particular, I feel that Naka-dori Avenue, facing Marunouchi Bldg., has become a symbolic spot in Marunouchi. The area has become a place where one can enjoy seasonal performances, such as dry mist in the summer and illumination in the winter," he says.
