Yusuke Yanaka (Kyoto City University of Arts Graduate School)

Yusuke Yanaka | Mountain Vibration (2014) Photography, wood, styrofoam, lacquer, etc.
"Mountain Vibration" (2014) Photograph, wood, Styrofoam, lacquer, etc.

・Shigeo Goto
There are two evaluations. One is that we are trying to create a unique system that expands what we can see in a tactile manner, centered around the body. Second, on the contrary, he is attempting to break with the systematic thinking of contemporary art and directly create new sculptures.

・Yusaku Imamura
In Yanaka's works, different perceptions of the physical, tactile world and the abstract world of vision are at odds with each other, yet interrelate in an exquisite balance. I was delighted to see the emergence of a talent that discovered this new realm of sensation, and at the same time, I was able to experience Daigomi of sculpture. I look forward to seeing his future activities.

・Tomio Koyama
The clear concept of touch and vision and the completeness of the installation create a persuasive feeling.

Yusaku Imamura Award

[Judge evaluation]

There are Artist from a kinder era. Fukumoto is probably one of those people. Bright colors, traditional dyeing and weaving found in Asian countries. The paintings created in honest response to new encounters have a somewhat nostalgic and idyllic atmosphere. This is the starting point for a journey to discover yourself more deeply. I would like to see that journey.

Kamiya Yukie Award
Anna Saito (Joshibi University of Art and Design Graduate School)

Anna Saito | “No country Chimera of Yomi Hirasaka” (2013-2014) Mixed media
“No country Chimera of Yomi Hirasaka” (2013-2014) Mixed media

[Judge evaluation]

Mr. Saito's work, which was also painted on an amorphous cube-like box, created a complex spatial world that protrudes even though it is a painting, and is contained because it is a painting. The mysterious and unsettling world of the story, illuminated only by moonlight, can also be seen as a dark metaphor for modern times. The uniqueness and freshness of the artists living today were conveyed.

Shigeo Goto Award
Marie Fujii (Kyoto City University of Arts Graduate School)

Marie Fujii | Parling Can't Kill You (2012-) Paper, pen
“Purring Can’t Kill You” (2012-) Paper, pen

[Judge evaluation]

He views the act of painting from the perspective of openness, and also has a positive and empowering attitude, and the possibilities of pictorial expression and the fundamental rebirth of art are highly praised. The world she depicts is not imaginary, but more than reality, with intensity.

Tomio Koyama Award
Minami Sasada (Kyoto City University of Arts)

Minami Sasada | Sketch (2013-2014) Pottery clay, glaze, pigment, paper, Others
[Sketch] (2013-2014) Pottery clay, glaze, pigment, paper, Others

[Judge evaluation]

Using the human body and landscape as motifs, he perfects himself and creates forms. It's amazing how sincerely they work. Although it is a fragile expression, it has a powerful presence.

Akiya Takahashi Award
Kei Harada (Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School)

Kei Harada | Blink of the Intestines (2014) Panel, plaster, pigment, glue
“Blink of the Intestines” (2014) Panel, plaster, pigment, glue

[Judge evaluation]

At first glance, this exhibition is a powerful work that deals with the human body, and resembles the expressions of Dubuffet. It's large and quite impressive. But Mr. Harada's mysterious personality is clear. A human body discovered in an ancient tomb unexpectedly showed its organs intact, just like a modern human. A transparent feeling between oblivion and vivid reality that creates such a hallucination in the viewer. Rich nature revived in time.

Akira Tatehata Award
Yuriko Sasaoka (Kyoto City University of Arts Graduate School)

Yuriko Sasaoka | "anima/ Cuisine of Justice" (2013-2014) Video installation 7'02'' / "anima/Mackerel and Harness" (2013-2014) Video installation 7'02''
"anima/ Cuisine of Justice" (2013-2014) Video installation 7'02'' / "anima/Mackerel and Harness" (2013-2014) Video installation 7'02''

[Judge evaluation]

Although it is a very simple and straightforward puppet theater video work, the humor of this private idea stands out. The handmade analog feel is also interesting. In this era of media art that makes full use of advanced technology, it seems that such methods are still alive and well.

[Guest judge] Mitsuru Kuramoto Award
Mariko Kitajima (Tokyo Zokei University)

Mariko Kitajima | About Me (2014) Mixed media
"About Me" (2014) Mixed media

[Judge evaluation]

He is truly “exerting himself” towards his work. I chose Simple is Strong based on its high score on the ``aho'' level, which is the criterion for evaluating my art. I was surprised that the work had been redrawn for this exhibition (such a detailed expression!). All of his works are truly idiotic, such as using his own blood as art material or using the remains of his beloved dog as a rakugan! !

Mitsubishi Estate Award
Rina Mizuno (Tama Art University Graduate School)

Rina Mizuno | Infestation in the Garden (2013) Canvas, oil painting, ballpoint pen / Closet (2013) Canvas, oil painting, ballpoint pen / Motif for painting (2013) Mixed media

[Judge evaluation]

・Reiichi Noguchi (Curatorial Group Head, Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Tokyo)
The accumulated colors and shapes form complex and rich details that you will never tire of looking at. This time, he presented a three-dimensional object that could be called a painting motif or a maquette, and was praised for showing a total worldview that is rooted in color and material.

*You can exhibit your work in Marunouchi, Tokyo.

[Judge evaluation]

・Kakuyasu Uchide (Shu Uemura International Artistic Director)
The strong colors and intense touches reminiscent of Fauvism are impressive. It's amazing how much influence it can have on changing a space. Her abstract yet seductive style also seems to go well with Cosmetics.

[Judge evaluation]

・Diane Joss (Cultural Officer, French Embassy)
Choi Da-jung uses mature and sophisticated expressive techniques to confront contemporary issues such as encounters with other cultures, the conflict between world violence and everyday life, and our position in that world. Through various media, he brings out memories that are both intimate and universal.

[Judge evaluation]

・Kentaro Totsuka (HPFRANCE Co., Ltd. hpgrp GALLERY TOKYO Director)
Rather than relying on the image of a motif, he uses a unique technique to attractively express the feeling of ``the air rising up''. Another point of praise is that the beautiful surface created by heaping up the paint is not decorative.

*Works can be exhibited at HPFRANCE WINDOW GALLERY (1st floor, Marunouchi Bldg.) operated by H. P. FRANCE.
