Kota Hirakawa (2013 Mitsubishi Estate Award Winner)

I am very happy to be able to participate in the exhibition called aatm, which has produced many wonderful Artist. Also, receiving recognition in the form of the Mitsubishi Estate Award gave me great confidence in my future career as an artist. I hope that this wonderful opportunity, where the judges will seriously respond to the once-in-a-lifetime exhibition of art school students' graduation work, will continue to be one of the goals of art school students.

I think aatm provides important motivation for my graduation project. When we were students, when we heard about AATM, we were all excited to do it! However, I don't think it's fun at all if you wait to be called out. The real purpose is to create something in the hearts of people who pass by the space where the work is displayed. Art has that power. This is a condition that is freely given to everyone, and I think that is Daigomi. I'd like to come across an amazing work that will make people say, "Did you see that work at AATM this year?" I think it takes a lot of courage to start something new or focus on something you're truly interested in, but I hope you don't be afraid to push through.

aatm was a good opportunity for me to continue creating various things. I learned a lot from seeing the work of writers my age and exchanging opinions, and what judge Kazue Kobata said to me, ``You don't understand anything,'' resonated with me. I'm sure you'll be happy and sad depending on the results of the screening, but please don't worry too much about it and enjoy this special space and time.
