Yuki Murata

Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School
Graduate School of Fine Arts,
Tokyo University of the Arts

Judge's comment
In Yuki Murata's work ``Atmosphere,'' the world of battle depicted in anime and the solitary battle of one man resonate with the motifs of traditional Buddhist sculpture, revealing a new world. Just as crafts are now attracting attention, traditions are being revived in a modern context. I am delighted that a work like this was created using traditional wood carving techniques.
(Tokyo Wonder Site Director/Yusaku Imamura)

● Mitsubishi Estate Co.,Ltd. Prize

Momoko Yoshida

Kyoto City University of Arts Graduate School
Graduate School of Arts,
Kyoto City University of Arts

Judge's comment
Although it looks like a screen on which images are projected, the process of creating the work is also cinematic. Just like making a music video, he creates a maquette based on the setting, shoots it, and selects the appropriate scene to draw. However, rather than turning images into paintings, I feel that they are pursuing the creation of a new atmosphere and worldview that straddles both.
(Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Tokyo Curatorial Group Head/Reiichi Noguchi)

● Yusaku Imamura Award

Takuya Watanabe

Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School
Graduate School of Fine Arts,
Tokyo University of the Arts

Judge's comment
Watanabe's ``Installation of Tools and Thoughts'' is an ambitious work that places the activities of humans in a larger perspective of time, using tools made from terracotta. The tactile approach of his works, in which ancient time and modern times intertwine as thoughts, gives a sense of scale. I look forward to future developments.
(Tokyo Wonder Site Director/Yusaku Imamura)

● Eriko Kimura Award

Yoshiki Omote

Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School
Graduate School of Fine Arts,
Tokyo University of the Arts

Judge's comment
This work, created by the impact of a block of polyester resin that has been layered over a long period of time and hardened, slams into the ground, is befitting its title of ``structural geology,'' and is an image of strata that have become apparent due to sudden crustal movements. overlaps with This work effectively expresses the moment when artificial tones and time accumulated by human hands violently meet the dynamics of nature.
(Yokohama Museum of Art of Art Chief Curator/Eriko Kimura)

● Shigeo Goto Award

Natsuki Takayama

Tokyo Zokei University Graduate School
Graduate School of Tokyo Zokei University of
Arts and Design

Judge's comment
He scratches the picture and draws it again, and from the accumulated layers, the unique magnetic force of the picture is generated. How did Natsuki Takayama acquire this unique method and become confident in it? This primitive technique is sure to prepare you for a journey to an unexplored world. I'm really looking forward to seeing what kind of flowers her rare painting skills will bring to fruition.
(Professor, Kyoto University of Art and Design/Shigeo Goto)

● Tomio Koyama Award

Jun Maruyama

Nagoya Zokei University
Nagoya Zokei University of Art & Design

Judge's comment
Precisely shaped creatures with beliefs live in a society called ``Ma''. Along with his primitive strength, he is a very attractive Artist with fragile and delicate parts and vivid colors, and you can see his magnificent world view.
(Representative of Tomio Koyama Gallery/Tomio Koyama)

● Akiya Takahashi Award

Moe Nakamura

Kyoto University of Art and Design Graduate School
Kyoto University of Art and Design Graduate School

Judge's comment
Rich colors and decorative forms reminiscent of Nishijin textiles. The screen gives a sense of Kyoto's tradition in a good sense, but is wrapped in a modern scent. This work is filled with rich dynamism and exudes youthfulness.
(Director of Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Tokyo / Akiya Takahashi)

● Akira Tatehata Award

Masato Mizutani

Kyoto City University of Arts Graduate School
Graduate School of Arts, Kyoto City University of Arts

Judge's comment
It is a work that can be described as both disturbing and humorous, with thick layers of acrylic paint visible at the edges and acrylic paint organically undulating and rising in the center of the screen, injected from the back. The secret (?) mechanism that the colors are taken from the paintings of painters he is interested in, such as Bacon, is also interesting. We draw attention to his unique ability to approach unique technology with great seriousness.
(Tama Art University President/Akira Tatehata)

● Shu Uemura Prize

Mina Katsuki

Kyoto University of Art and Design Graduate School
Kyoto University of Art and Design Graduate School

Judge's comment
Pigments are important in Cosmetics, and we are always looking for new ways to express them. Similarly, I think that Katsuki's works are very interesting in that he explores the use of paint itself and tries new things and expression methods. I believe that this kind of literacy will lead to the development of new expression methods for Cosmetics industry in the future.

● French Embassy Prize

Saki Murakami

Musashino Art University Graduate School
Graduate School of Art and Design,
Musashino Art University

Judge's comment
Beneath their simple appearance, Haya Murakami's works convey a sense of mature technical ability and maturity of the themes they handle. The world that is depicted through this attention to the intimate and personal cannot help but evoke quotations from the Bible and mythology, as well as influences from aesthetics originating from other countries and eras. yeah. The artist has developed a unique relationship with the images of animals, children, and sacred objects. There is an almost innocent brutality in the way she handles these themes that makes her work so unique.
(Embassy of France/Institut Francais Tokyo)
