Tokyo Biennale 2025

Event Period2025.09.29 Mon- 2025.12.14 Sun
Location:Gyoko-dori Underground Gallery and other locations

Encounter art while walking through the streets of Tokyo.
Tokyo Biennale 2025 is an international art festival held every two years in urban spaces. This year, the third edition, will be held under the theme "Would you like to take a walk with me?" and will feature artworks in the Otemachi, Marunouchi, and Yurakucho (O-Maru-Yu) areas in addition to Ueno, Kanda, and Nihonbashi.
Rather than being displayed in a museum, art is displayed in everyday scenes such as street corners, underground passages and historical buildings, bringing out new charms and discoveries in the city.
In the Otemachi-Maru-Yuraku area, Naoki Sato's large-scale work "It Grows There" will be on display at Gyoko-dori Underground Gallery and on Otemachi Park Bldg. 1F. The series, which connects plywood panels depicting plants, now exceeds 330 meters and continues to grow along with the changes in the city. In addition, a large-scale wall art piece by Ouchi Kaze will be displayed on the wall of the Otemachi First Square Building, allowing visitors to experience the resonance between the city and art.

Artist Statement
I wanted to change the world. Looking around, I see anxiety, fear, and indifference running rampant in the world. In order for people to express themselves freely, to tolerate each other's expressions, to complement each other's abilities and weaknesses, and to create a better world, we need to bring to the surface the anxieties and fears that each of us currently harbors, even if we ourselves are not aware of them. We need to confront them. I happen to be a painter, and I'm having this exhibition, but my primary job is to live each day better as myself. What is functional and more beautiful as expression, and what is an unproductive and self-destructive choice? This clearly resonates within me as a constant axis, both within my paintings and when I step outside into the real world.
