Is a sustainable future something that will come naturally as an extension of current society? Or will we be required to tackle it with an awareness of reshaping the very nature of society? Envisioning the future is not easy, even for creators. In this exhibition, we hope to provide an opportunity to think together about how the future has been envisioned in the field through projects, while introducing the "foundational steps" that were taken.

"Suteru Design" has been working on projects that are being implemented in society, with a strong focus on building a circular society, such as "CD Plastic," a project in collaboration with BOOKOFF that recycles discarded CD, DVD, and game software discs and cases into recycled materials.
At the same time, with the awareness that simply making the current society circular is not enough, students and collaborating companies have also been working together to envision the "desired future."
In the "How to Envision the Future - Fostering Connections" project with Panasonic and the "Cassettetable - The Future of Windows and Doors" project with LIXIL x Collaboration (Osaki Town, Kagoshima Prefecture), we have explored how to conceive and shape the future through design, starting with the development approach itself. Furthermore, the "Cosy & Comfy - The Joys of Work and Life" project with Nippon Yusen Kaisha focuses on life on board ships and the job satisfaction of seafarers, exploring how we can design values such as comfort, ease, and purpose in life.

Venue also features many upcycling design proposals that were created in collaboration with students. The idea is to spread the idea of using things again before discarding them as a social action. The idea is to use the power of design to create excitement, fun, beauty, and familiarity, and get people interested in recycling-oriented initiatives. We hope that through this exhibition, you will be able to get a sense of the issues that have become apparent through such practices, as well as the approaches and methodologies for changing society.

■About the co-creation project "Throwaway Design"
https://tub.tamabi.ac.jp/#suteru-design
"Throw Away Design" is a co-creation project in which Tama Art University TUB and companies collaborate to realize a recycling-oriented society by designing not only how things are made but also how things are thrown away. Through practice, we hope to create an opportunity to rethink the recycling-oriented society as something that concerns us personally, and encourage new values and behavioral changes in society.
