Leading construction and design companies in Japan will present their latest urban wooden construction projects.
- A 1/500 scale 3D model map is on display, mapping the urban wooden structures, street trees, Rooftop greenery, and wooden spaces in the Marunouchi, Ginza, and Nihonbashi areas. It offers an overview of Tokyo's surprisingly numerous "trees in the city" and its role as a "second forest, an urban timber yard."
A university student studying architecture proposes a "Neo-KK Line" on the KK Line (former Tokyo Expressway).
The "Urban Timber Studio" will present the latest projects in "urban timber construction," which involves the construction of mid-to-high-rise wooden buildings in urban areas. The studio will introduce the evolution of urban timber projects since 2000, which have rapidly increased in scale in recent years, and explore future possibilities. It will also consider architecture and urban development that balances rich urban spaces with the sustainable use of wood in the Tokyo Station area, which is currently undergoing redevelopment.
This year's theme is "Technologies and designs for making spaces look attractive with wood," and leading Japanese design and construction companies will present 14 projects (planned) mainly in the Tokyo metropolitan area using images, videos, models, and other materials.

Mountain trees and urban wooden construction
This exhibition introduces building materials such as solid large-section lumber, laminated timber, CLT, and LVL, which make use of large-diameter trees that have passed their felling age, as well as trees in various states such as slight bends and branching, and the urban wooden spaces that are created from them.
- Trees in the city and urban forestry
Urban forestry considers street trees and park trees, which are sometimes considered a "liability" due to the need for cleaning, maintenance, and the risk of falling, as "unused timber." We propose enriching local spaces by repeatedly maintaining trees planted in the community, enjoying their fruits and leaves, and then appropriately felling and utilizing them.
The challenges related to wood in Japan extend beyond mountain forests to urban areas, where fallen trees have been a recent phenomenon. This Venue focuses on "mountain trees and urban timber construction" and "urban trees and urban forestry." We will visualize various aspects of using wood in cities and research "WOOD LIFE" that can be created by balancing "large-scale cycles" and "small-scale cycles."
