01. Soraami -Shops to weave fishing nets with Artist Yasuaki Igarashi -
About the Takamatsu Port Project
Since the Setouchi Triennale was held in 2010, the number of visitors from Japan and abroad has been on the rise. In the area around Sunport Takamatsu, where Takamatsu Port, JR Takamatsu Station, and the bus terminal are all located, Kagawa Prefecture is working to create even more excitement, with new commercial facilities and a prefectural arena, Anabuki Arena Kagawa, being newly constructed. This project aims to turn Takamatsu Port into a place to promote Setouchi food, products, and technology, and to turn it into a welcoming port where people can interact, serving as a gateway for the art festival and for people from both within and outside of Shikoku.
About past Shops
In the Takamatsu Port Project, fishing nets decorate Takamatsu Port, sending off people heading to the island and serving as a landmark for their return journey, connecting people, the sea, and the island, connecting their memories.
Artist Yasuaki Igarashi has been creating large-scale works weaving nets on the five Yoshima islands, including Shamijima, and on islands in the western part of Kagawa Prefecture in 2013, 2016, and 2019. He created six nets together with local fishermen, local residents, and the Koebi-tai on the eastern islands (Teshima, Megijima, Ogijima, and Shodoshima) in preparation for the spring festival, and in the new Venue and Shido/Tsuda areas in preparation for the summer festival. These will be connected to the one woven at Marunouchi Bldg. and hung in Takamatsu Port.
