We will be showcasing works from Miyamotoya Kiln (1830-1868), which played an extremely important role in the long history of Kutani ware.
Miyamotoya Kiln is one of the revived Kutani kilns, and has demonstrated its originality by taking inspiration from the Houshi Bokufu for some of its themes, establishing an unshakable position as "Miyamotoya Kiln is synonymous with Kutani Akae ware."
Among these, notable features are the finest details in the world, the blackish red color (commonly known as blood red), and the fact that this is the first piece to feature "overglazes other than red" on gold leaf.
Miyamotoya Kiln is also known as Iida-ya Kiln, after the name of the chief painter, Iida-ya Hachiroemon.
This exhibition will feature 50 pieces from Miyamotoya Kiln, very few of which remain in existence.
