Huge town
Luigi Mainolfi
1987/Bronze/Italy
Born in Rotondi, Italy in 1948. This work, which won the Excellence Award at the 5th Henry Moore Grand Prize Exhibition, was inspired by ancient Italy. From a distance, it looks like a plump bronze human form, but when you look closely, you can see that the entire work is covered with countless window-like openings. It also looks like an ancient fortress or a hollow city. During this period, he created sculptures that symbolize the growth of cities and human existence, and in this work, he combines the bronze and human form born from nature with a city, a symbol of human civilization, to visualize the harmony and tension between the two.
