Eat, Shop, Laugh, Repeat!

Transforming into a multi-faceted cultural hub.

In 2002, the Marunouchi Building, once celebrated as the 'Most Magnificent Building in Orient' during the early Showa era, underwent a transformative rebirth as Maru-biru; a name derived from Marunouchi and the Japanese word for building, 'biru.' This marked a pivotal moment in Marunouchi's evolution, steering away from its strict business district image. Maru-biru now hosts a diverse array of over 150 restaurants and shops, fostering a lively atmosphere. Along the adjacent Naka-dori Avenue, a collection of stylish storefronts adds to the district's dynamic charm.
In 2007, the introduction of its 'sister' building, Shin (new) Maru-biru, expanded Marunouchi's appeal even further. This expansion has not only drawn those working in the area but also visitors seeking to 'enjoy' the district, eager to explore and immerse themselves in all that Marunouchi has to offer.

Wellness and Fitness in Daimaruyu

Beyond dining, shopping, and entertainment, Daimaruyu prioritizes the health and well-being of busy business professionals. In addition to traditional gyms, thermal spas, and saunas, a new trend has emerged with the introduction of running stations, commonly known as 'run-stes.' These establishments serve as convenient pit stops where individuals can easily change into or out of workout attire and freshen up with a shower. Some run-stes even provide rental workout clothes for added convenience. The 5km paved pathway encircling the Imperial Palace stands as one of Tokyo's most popular running and cycling routes. Thanks to the accessibility of run-stes, Daimaruyu office workers can seamlessly integrate a refreshing run into their routines before work or during lunch breaks, eliminating logistical challenges. Moreover, Marunouchi Naka-dori Avenue is witnessing a growing presence of athletic wear brands, further emphasizing the commitment to a holistic approach to health and fitness in the district.

A Dynamic Town in Constant Evolution.

Future Development Plans

Stretching from the vibrant Yurakucho in the south to the bustling Otemachi in the north, the excitement-filled Daimaruyu district is always evolving, with Maru-biru and Shin Maru-biru as anchors of the community.
A brand-new neighborhood, Tokyo Torch, is set to grace the Nihonbashi side of Tokyo Station, featuring the Torch Tower, poised to be Japan's tallest construction upon completion in 2027. Simultaneously, a remarkable transformation is unfolding in the Yurakucho area, with the redevelopment of Yurakucho Building and Shin Yurakucho Building, along with plans to rebuild the Kunigiwa Building. This ambitious revitalization project is slated for completion by 2030. Daimaruyu stands as a truly dynamic town in perpetual evolution.
