L’Eau se déplie(Water unfolding)
Agustan Cardenas
1977/White marble from Carrara/Cuban France
Born in Cuba in 1927, moved to Paris in 1955. Cárdenas was greatly influenced by the sculptures of Constantin Brancusi and Jean Arp. He is a member of the last group of Surrealists and has held numerous exhibitions with them. His sculptural orientation is reminiscent of the primitive art of his African roots, and his sensual, lyrical works are characterized by a fusion of forms that can be associated with both humans and plants. This work organically expresses the spreading water, but it also gives a sense of the vitality of living things.
