sleeping head statue
Igor Mitrai
1983/Marble/Poland
His handsome face, like a Greek statue, is covered with bandages and appears in eternal meditation. As if to escape from the anxiety of reality, their consciousness turns inward and looks at themselves. Mitrai says, ``I am constantly exploring humanity and trying to find my roots again.'' In his early years, he created sculptures in terracotta and bronze, but in 1981 he discovered white marble from Carrara, Italy, which became his ideal material. He set up a studio in Pietrasanta, near Carrara, and worked in marble and bronze.
